Hijos de la chingada
“Nacidos de la chingada,
muertos en la chingada, vivos por pura chingadera: vientre y mortaja,
escondidos en la chingada.” (Extracto
de la novela La muerte de Artemio Cruz)
Mexico is one of the richest countries of the world; it has been sacked
for centuries and is still on its feet, this was a saying of Margarethe Tatcher
first woman to achieve being first minister of UK, as she said, Mexico is rich
on resources, it has all climates excepting tundra and over 10% of total
species in the world are founded there; nonetheless what Margaret Tatcher is also
denoting in her phrase about Mexico’s richness is focused on the same thing
that Octavio Paz captures on the fourth chapter of his book El Laberinto De La Soledad titled Los Hijos De La Malinche.
Octavio Paz knew better than the majority that Mexican people is full;
full of passion, of hate, of fear, of love, of courage, of ideas and full of
conviction sometimes wrong directed and even though it might contradict each
emotion to other he painted in cruelty a common Mexican that would walk on the
street every day at his country with his head up high. Octavio was a Mexican
writer born on 1914 at the chaos itself; the Mexican revolution gave him a
scholarship but took away his father for a long time, he suffered the cultural
shock before and after LA, he recalls being punched the first day he arrived to
school at LA an latter on at Mexico, his premature interest on letters and his
grandfather’s occupation made out of him a poet and a politic concerned
civilian, and taking into account that he didn’t wrote El Laberinto De La Soledad at his birth country we should suppose
that he had such a deep experience with the culture that he could and did
described them by heart; you’ll see, his living context had prepared him for
this moment, he not only had American but French and Spanish influence, he
counted with the expanded vision of an insider and a foreign mind.
So we can say El Laberinto De La
Soledad is a book written by the mind of a man and the heart of a stone, he
was rude but honest with his kind.
Los Hijosde La Malinche talks specifically about the culture
development since the Spanish conquered Mexico, how Mexicans are sons of a
violated culture (ingrown by la Malinche
in this case as a metaphor) and abandoned by their mother into the unknown,
growing slowly a bastard nation based in two types of personality, the braves
and the cowards (on the book would be Los
chingones and los agachados) giving life to the famous saying the brave
will live till the coward wants, Mexico has been guided by the ones who’s brave
personality predominates on proportional amount to their brutality, the Mexican
personality has guide them to a quick winning and a long term losing that is
only achievable by its enigmatic and their hermetic thinking.
On a close look to the fourth chapter of this book we would find the
Mexican soul in its starkest way. Los Hijos
De La Malinche are transformed on to Los
Hijos De La Chingada, this is thanks to the specific word chingada, chingar, chignon; in fact
there isn’t any specific meaning in Spanish or translation in English for this
word and all of its contexts:
“En México los significados de la palabra son innumerables.
Es una voz mágica. Basta un cambio de tono, una inflexión apenas, para que el
sentido varíe.” (Extracto de El laberinto de
la soledad)
As the Mexican itself chingar
is a many personalities word, it could mean everything and nothing at the same
time. It is all about the way you say it, the way you treat it and receive it,
how is pronounced and in which context, just as the Mexican, sometimes depends
from the other words for not being meaningless while other times it meaning
alone is enough.
At last, how hermetic we are? Are we fully conscious about how is to be
a motherless child borned of violation and walking through history looking
forward? I think we are, we have many contexts and every moment rebuilds what
we are, what we think and how we develop through time, Mexican people aren’t
children of circumstances at all, they are creators of their magic realism and
La chingada only exist because of it, of its culture, its thinking, believing,
acting and at the end La chingada isn’t he mother… is us.
